Few have done more to mainstream anti-Muslim bigotry than this man.https://twitter.com/RichardDawkins/status/1110878434618683393 …

Is Dawkins more anti- on Islam than any of the other major world religions? I guess I don’t expect biologists who have to write books trying to convince people that evolution is a fact to pull punches on one religion, you know?

As an atheist, is it no longer possible for me to dislike some religions more than others? How do I say that tree worshipers get me down much less than say a faith that enforces blasphemy laws, or tosses gay kids from rooftops, without being ‘something-phobic’?

If you are giving the majority religion of your society a free pass and picking describing a minority religion that is subject to xenophobic violence (Christchurch) as a "cancer" then I think your motives are not just a love of secularism.

So if Dawkins heaps criticism on his own religion (for literally decades) and then says ‘and look this other one is even worse’, we should respond by being suspicious of his motives? Hitchens made a similar case, is he islamaphobic?

Did jeet heer just say Islam is a minority religion? Or does he just mean in the U.S.

It's a minority religion where Dawkins lives (England) and where he has most influence (in the West, particularly English speaking countries). He's picking on a religious minority, in the name of secularism. It's disgusting.

So it seems the answer to my original question is ‘no’, an atheist can’t vocalize a dislike for one religion more than another, because to do so in a place where that religion is a minority is punching down, even when you have decades of evidence of him punching up first.

If you associate one religion (Christianity) mainly with beautiful music & another religion (Islam) with the most horrific acts of its members, then I think you aren't motivated by atheism or an honest approach to comparative religious studies.

Dude, 50 Muslims were killed recently for being Muslim. Dawkins is going around telling people that Islam is a "cancer" -- the very language used by neo-Nazis to describe people they want to kill. That's a little different than hating liver.
