I watched it last night, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was one of the best children's movies I've ever seen, A+

well, this has moved from a "children's movie" to "kids" meaning teens are kids. kirby wasn't layering in civil rights allegories in x-men comics and all the many social issues you've rightly identified in his work for kids anymore than schulz meant "peanuts" for children.

I think the crucial distinction is between all-ages (which Kirby and Schulz did) and adults only (the post-Moore rape-and-slaughter superhero comics). Supereroes should be an all-ages genre not an adults only one.

Gotta day this is a bit ahistoric for early Kirby. The Cap comics of WWII were distributed throughout the military, so even if they were definitely targeting a young demographic, not really a strictly “kids” audience.
