Here's what this occludes: Americans traditionally defer to their presidents on foreign policy, all the more so after an attack like 9/11. The push to attack Iraq was spear-headed by neocons & their nationalist allies (Cheney, Rumsfeld) who brought along other factions.https://twitter.com/MaxBoot/status/1105899744373678082 …

72% supported the Iraq War—including @TuckerCarlson & @ggreenwald. By trying to blame the conflict on “neocons,” critics absolve everyone else—including, in some cases, themselves—of responsibility for a collective mistake. My @PostOpinions column: https://wapo.st/2F4DjFE

And that they lied and mislead about the evidence in the run up to the war

72%....of Americans. How many Iraqis, I wonder, were in favour of the annihilation of their own country?

UN inspectors said Iraq had no WMD, but the powerful neocons in PNAC got their wish anyway. They had been pushing for war with Iraq for a long time, long before 9/11.

I considered myself a centrist at the time. While I had huge doubts, seeing men I trusted like Colin Powell laying out the case made me feel like there might be a case for war. I was being misled, as they took advantage of the faith I, and many others, had in our leaders.

Yes spearheaded. But I remember “Freedom Fries”. Lots of the citizenry wanted to go to war. I had things thrown at me for demonstrating peacefully against it. I remember and forgive no one for their role in that “colonial” invasion

Colin Powell at the UN wasn’t helpful. Neither was the media—who beat the war drum on the daily—as if there was no way we weren’t going.

Sure they were the technocrats that planned and pushed the invasion but Howard Stern, the highest rated morning show, called for bombing all Arab countries. How does that figure is associating blame?
