6. The American system has some advantages -- there is a lot more money in system -- but, in all honesty, it is much less focused on giving people an education than in giving them the right social connections.

I find Ontario is fairly competitive b/c so many schools in close proximity. I came from Alberta tho where you basically went to whatever was closest.

aren't all the state universities funded through the state govts? I'm always told they aren't as elite, but the tuition is low...

The tuition is lower for in-state students only, and it's still much higher than Canadian universities - it would have cost me about the same amount to attend a SUNY as it did to attend McGill as a foreign student.

Interesting. Compared to Europe I found it quite significant in Canada/YYC to say the least. (As with most things that Canadians like to think differentiate them from their southern neighbours)
