This is a tweet from someone who has a locked account so I'm putting in their name, but it's a smart observation on the debate about how compromised the New Deal was by racism.pic.twitter.com/wAK1MSdSyd

I'll add: I'm old enough to remember when "the New Deal was compromised" was a left position while liberals argued for its achievement. Now the roles have been flipped.

That was when Liberals assumed the New Deal would be a sufficient enough social reforms package for the next 200 years

It's because they're using the New Deal as a proxy for the real debate, which is about whether the Dem party base should include white workers or white professionals

Very true. Also why old line socialists like Norman Thomas opposed the New Deal. They preferred Hoover because he would speed up the revolutionary process.

Letting people suffer for The Revolution was bad then and it's bad now.

I really don’t think that’s been flipped. Just look at the Green New Deal’s emphasis on helping vulnerable communities first.

I think the New Deal was a good thing and made a lot of difference even if it was imperfect. I laugh about all the Bernie acolytes who fawn over FDR when you know if they had been around in the 30s they’d have all been Huey Long supporters.
