It’s not about you and your childhood though. And, if you traveled in the USSR as I did during this period, you might not find it so endearing.

Reaganism =! blaming the US for tensions with the USSR in the 1980s. Come on now.

Bernie's understanding of geopolitics is that of a 13 year old who has read Marx and Noam Chomsky for the first time and feel they know everything.

A 13 year old who has only read Marx and Chomsky for the first time ever wouldn’t have lead us into endless wars of aggression in the middle east

Get a grip people. Bernie wasn’t defending the Soviet Union — he was saying the US shouldn’t be posturing so aggressively with nukes. Leah wasn’t defending Reagan. I went to Moscow in 1986 to intern for Nick Daniloff at US News and World Report. /1

Everywhere I saw posters of cowboys riding nukes and making threatening gestures. The whole propaganda machine in the USSR was anti US nuke imperialism. Yes the place was totally repressive but that doesn’t mean Bernie wasn’t right about US nuclear jingoistism. /2
