Has anyone written about the impact of the closing of the Olin Foundation in 2005 on the American right? Arguably it was huge.

Koch was once more intellectually-driven like Olin. IHS (of which I am an alum) is still genteel compared to the rest of the conservative and libertarian orbit. But even during the height of Olin's giving, Heritage was always harder edge, politically-driven.

You also cannot overstate the impact of the Clinton years, when conservatives learned that going all Limbaugh/Gingrich was a formula for success. Also, conservatism was never as genteel or intellectually-driven as it appeared. Conservatives were always good at hiding profanity.
