1. The Coen Brothers have had a very strong run of movies from No Country For Old Men to The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, with perhaps Hail Caesar! being the one movie from the set that is most dismissed. I want to change that.

Agree it’s a complex film, yet unclear if the primary message is that art is redemptive; perhaps that art has the capacity to illuminate the dialectics/contradictions that Marcuse (and Adorno/Horkheimer) spoke of, which are also embodied within art, and which art can’t transcend?
