Incredibly the chart is often used to represented more abstract quantities than can indeed be grown or shrunk

So you have a chart but you're calling it a pie and you're giving it qualities that charts don't have (you can't really grow a chart either, nor would you want to hoard it in a castle with a drawbridge). Seems like a metaphor failure to me.
