        This doesn't sound right. Were all the alliances aristocratic? The failing of aristocracies explains rise of national socialist regime vs communism, & hubris that they cld control Hitler. Did they fail bc they brought ruin of first war?

        I'd also argue that the pushing of "nationalist" ideology, as that caste transformed their multinational corporate states into "national" ones, was also important, but yeah: without elites who valorized warfare that nationalist transformation could have been peaceful.
