The only good things the American right has given the world are Hugh Kenner's The Pound Era (1971) and Whit Stillman's Metropolitan (1990). Everything else is bullshit.

Okay, I was probably over-generalizing. Wolfe's books from Pump House Gang to Right Stuff are mostly terrific.

I feel like Pound's Cantos, while having some good parts for sure, as a whole tries to bludgeon the reader to death with its own significance.

Not sure I agree fully, but it’s a compelling observation. Kenner was one of the few critics whose work is arguably indispensable to a solid understanding of a given cultural era.
