There's a small subset of anti-war types who indulge in the fantasy that Trump is an anti-interventionist president. Thing is, even if he makes anti-interventionist gestures & mutterings, he lacks the competence to implement them as policy.https://twitter.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/1081924764405583882 …

Trump says US is pulling back in Syria. HE ADDS: “I never said we were doing it that quickly.”

The military industrial complex & foreign policy establishment are real & powerful. To overcome their policy preference, you need a president that is cagey and tenacious (Nixon with opening to China, Obama with Cuba, Iran & Syria). Trump doesn't have it.

I think there's a conflation of anti-interventionism & anti-imperialism from some of these types where opposing intervention is inherently anti-imperialist & anti-imperialism is mostly achieved by non-intervention. But Trump's non-interventionism is a product of his unilateralism

He would have no problem exercising American military power in a situation that, hypothetically speaking, helped him financially if given the opportunity. That being said, his incompetence creates the need for a serious discussion of deimperialization and demilitarization.

How is it possible that anyone, after all this time, could think Trump is anti- or pro-intervention or anything coherent? He doesn't have policies, he doesn't have ideology. All he has is self-interest, greed, ego, and childish temper tantrums.

Legit Argument. I'm reminded of Norman Cantor's critique, in I think The American Century, of C. Wright Mills' The Power Elite. Where Cantor noted that one of the main problems of the book was that Mills is surprised that there is a Power Elite.😉 1/2

Likewise, of course, for all their talk about the Deep State, Trump & his followers seem honestly surprised that there IS a Deep State. 2/2

Less slaughter has to start with US doing less of it.

He wants to open US to Russia, Chiba, NKorea and Saudi Arabia. Oops...and Brazil. The Hungarian dictator will soon be praised. Authoritarians are his gang.

And "progressive" pundits undermining Trump's attempts at non-intervention helps how? Citing Obama and Nixon (?!) as the guys who overcame the MIC to implement REAL non-intervention principles doesn't help your case either.
