Not immediately obvious to me why Eisenhower wins in 67-68. Any ideas?

I could only guess its bc he spoke of the ‘military-industrial complex’ upon leaving office and 67-68 were the height of the anti-war movement so it could have been a way of expressing anti-LBJ sentiment?
@rickperlstein would know.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

I understand why he was popular, just curious why he had a sudden spike in popularity in 67-68.

I was hoping Rick would be a bit more specific than that. Perhaps
@speechboy71 would be able to tell us in more specific detail why Ike had a spike in popularity in 67/68?1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
Someone else here explained he had his autobiography out which could partially explain at least one of the years

Could also be that as the country began to fall apart in 67/68 people looked to old, trusted leaders

Parallels the popular revival of Truman's reputation before his death in 1972 and immediately after in 1973/1974 as Watergate made Truman look good.
