This is exactly right. This all seems like a pointless debate not just because we haven't see signs that Beto will run but also that its shaping up to be a crowded field with many other good, serious candidates who are in fact preparing a run.https://twitter.com/JoshuaHol/status/1077749894604091394 …

Although if you believe the polls, such people do not exist.

If Beto stays “nebulous” (a characterization I dispute, having followed him as a Texan since before he ran; but let’s say that becomes/remains his general narrative), and Democratic primary voters prefer that for some reason, they’ll nominate him AND THAT’S FINE
-
My point being, don’t knock the debate or the candidates. Knock the principle to which it seems you object, namely nebulousness

1) I can't really object to Democrats thinking Beto's charisma can win elections. It's a 180-degree turn from the Clinton mentality that insisted her bad rep was all Republican fabrications (never mind that they stuck!) and that we should pinch our nose and vote for her resumé.
-
2) After all, charisma-galore-and-damn-the-rest was exactly what the Republicans did with Trump, and it worked! The problem with the Democrats is deeper, however. The Republicans understand what to do with power once they have it, and the Democrats don't.

The whole thing also seems to ignore the actual Democratic electorate.

how about they wait until he is a candidate and has policies to discuss? How about instead of attacking this non-candidate they spent their time trying to explain Bernies positions and how he would get them passed Congress?

Who counts as a "progressive" in this definition? Do you mean "democratic socialist"?
