It's true that the left wants to win and change the world while liberals want to just cry about losing. Glad that Chait sees that.https://twitter.com/jonathanchait/status/1076497992180469760 …

@jonathanchait I think we should be cautious about the idea of adopting the GOP's procedural radicalism as a "model." -

Plenty of liberals say that’s what they want, but people like Yglesias seem unable to grasp (or maybe they do!) that the candidates and institutions they favor (liberal think tank/campaign staff world) would never in a million years deliver on that kind of procedural hardball

The real eye opener was McConnell’s decision to filibuster everything at the nadir of Republican influence. Obama clearly believed it’d be worth “returning” to some sort of constitutional comity, and he got sabotage.

I’m all the way onto the “our constitution is bad” train, mostly driven by the last few years but really since 2000 I’ve been drifting that way

Merrick Garland is certainly an great example of left playing scrupulously by the rules and presuming the right could never just say “F you. We’re gonna do what is best for US. Screw the norms!”

The more the left moves toward pocket book and universal issues (health care, taxes, criminal justice and (same) immigration reform), the better it will do. The more it doubles down on identity politics and social issues, the more likely Trump gets another 4 years.
