For sure. I think there's something unique about Abrahamic monotheism that really cemented the whole "great chain of being" approach to species...although, to be fair, there is a bit of "this animal is good, this one is bad" in animist and Eastern traditions too

Sure, there's moralizing of animals but it's different animals. I'm always struck by how snakes aren't seen as inherently evil in many cultures.
