Yeah, I love the folks at the Niskanen Center but they are the right-wing of the Democratic party, not the left-wing of the Republican party.https://twitter.com/PatrickIber/status/1075057085556101121 …

I think we should wish the Niskanen Center good success in its bid to create a better post-Trump GOP but...have they heard of the Democratic Party?

Same: read Kabaservice calling for a movement founded on "solidarity and care for the earth." That's...the Dems.

I think the idea is to be the Democratic party without minorities, which is as politically feasible as being the GOP without evangelicals and culture warriors.

An incredibly uncharitable take, seemingly unencumbered by any familiarity with our work. But pithy!

That totally misses the point. They should br the center of a new sane opposition party which pretty much by definition means they aren’t part of the current one.

They should be the left flank of the GOP or what follows it, just as Barack Obama should be the right flank of the Democrats.

think the idea is to imagine a US politics where the leftmost party is like AOC, and the right party is like the Niskanen Center.

It’s what Chait says—they want to be a more creative version of centrist Dems vs. a Bernie/AOC Democratic Party. Tbh, that would be a great outcome, would make them just normal center-right advanced party, not crackpot combo of revanchist/libertarian plutocrats. @PatrickIber
