I won’t pretend that the final three aren’t the weakest, but there are parts of this last volume I appreciate nonetheless. (Still, getting to the end is primarily fun because it means next time I go to read Dance I get to start at the beginning again!)
Am curious, was the organization into the four vol. ‘movements’ by Chicago endorses by AP or just a matter of pub design? Seems like those pairings correspond very neatly onto theme and time.
It does NOT spoil the series. That's like saying the last 5 years of someone's life spoils the previous 70 or 80 years. Life slows down, time contracts, isolation grows. Besides, Widmerpool's ultimate fate is perfect. Dance is incomplete without volume 12.
Agree! I love the otherwise id-less Widmerpoole's final come down.
