Impeachment is a political as well as legal process. The goal should be to get Trump out of office & also punished for any crimes he may have committed. Impeachment is one path, but not the only one.

Impeachment is the only constitutional tool for punishing a law-breaking president and removing them from power. Not sure there's a viable other path.

Use the investigatory powers of the House to uncover more of his crimes and corruption, run against him as a corrupt president in 2020, and if he's defeated he'll face arrest. A New York jury is a better bet than a Republican Senate for justice.

I hear what you're saying but while democratic accountability via the electoral process is obviously important it's not the right way to deal with a law-breaking president. The Constitution lays out a process for accountability, one that Democrats have the ability to uphold.

Impeachment is the proper constitutional remedy. I just don't know how it can work under current conditions of polarization, especially since GOP is now very Trumpized. Dems can impeach but removal is remote & GOP partisans will dismiss impeachment.

I don't doubt you are correct about the politics, but the focus for Democrats needs to be on upholding the rule of law ... not about the politics of this.

Impeachment is also about demanding electoral accountability for those Republicans who won't hold the president responsible for his actions

Yes, there's a real tension here between the politics & what might be called the constitutional imperative.

Indict the president as soon as the evidence is sufficient and put him on trial as soon as he’s voted out of office.
