This is a deeply cynical, terrifyingly awful take. Don't indict for a massive crime because you think you may not get a fair verdict. What about the victims? What about us? What about forcing the Senate to vote? No one should support this lunacy. (Jeet is not alone, btw).https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1071194086110040065 …

The goal is justice. We cannot provide the green light of precedent to future tyrants. That's the basic argument for impeachment. But there's a very strong political one, too - the destruction of the Republican argument in public.

A New York jury is more likely to get justice than a Senate with 53 Republicans.

I don't think "trump out of office" is the only important goal. Allowing major criminality to stand unchallenged for a full term also has long term consequences for our norms and institutions. Impeachment might as well cease to exist if it isn't even viable here.

I was saying earlier, it's not impossible, but...find me the 19 GOP senators that would be required for a two-thirds majority in the Senate to convict. The political reality is not yet such that 19 Senate Republicans would turn on Trump. That may change.

So let the man guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors govern the country unmolested for two years, possibly six, because you don't think the Senate will do anything so why bother? Well. I can tell you I don't regret unfollowing you, if that is what you being to the debate.

That is rather horrifying. What a corrupt Congress we must have.

Agree. I'm all for congressional investigations of criminality and corruption, but the laser focus needs to be on defeating Trump in 2020. Mueller's revelations will make that easier.

You’re talking about giving him and his cronies 2 more years to poison the nation’s soul, appoint rabid partisans to lifetime judgeships, gut the science arm of land management agencies, damage our foreign service and flout the Emoluments clause. 1/

My kid has seen a constant low-level panic at her school over the last two years, followed by an uptick and racist bullying. This is a school in urban DC with majority minority population! What do you think is happening to POC and lgbtq kids in majority white schools? 2/
