1. To impeach or not to impeach? That is the question. It just got a lot more real with the new determination that Trump directed Cohen to commit a crime. https://twitter.com/jonfavs/status/1071175435206049792 …

10. To argue with myself a bit: the course I'm advocating (House hearings short of impeachment unless there is huge evidence) carries a real risk. For if Trump is guilty of impeachable offenses & not impeached then his crimes have been normalized.

11. We're in a very murky place, with no clear answers and should be ready to change our minds. But for now, I think its best to think politically and keep our eyes on the prize. The goal is getting Trump out of office. 2020 is not too far away.

impeach...justice requires it...when the norms have been violated this much retribution is required for the sake of reality itself

People deserve to know whether their Senators approve of the president's crimes or not. It's really that simple.

His base will be motivated in 2020 no matter what. The question is what it would do to his approval with swing voters.

Okay, even though GOP are wankers through and through, they could still win a lot by impeaching Trump, they would get Pence and mainstream media would sing their praises

Hmm, do you feel like there is a major downside to impeachment sans removal, Jeet? We’ve never seen a president who was impeached win re-election (Clinton & Nixon were 2nd turners and Johnson didn’t get re-nominated by his party).

I think the only justifiable reason to delay impeachment is through explaining that one is awaiting a report from Mueller to prosecute all impeachable offenses simultaneously. Congress shouldn't let McConnell & co. move the goalposts. Do what the evidence justifies.

If the Senate acquits on a party-line vote, then at least future generations can argue over whether it was partisanship. But if the House fails to impeach on strategic grounds, it could create an impression they thought it didn't rise to the level of impeachment.
