I'm a little bit shamed by the fact that @mattyglesias took a harsher line against The Weekly Standard than I did:https://www.vox.com/2018/12/5/18126573/weekly-standard-neoconservatives-trump-iraq-casualties …

Trump's foreign policy is a bit of a mess but the component parts (willingness to take bribes for personal enrichment, turning alliances into straight-up protection racket, supporting racist nationalist movements in Europe, hard anti-immigrant stance) are all pernicious.

Boiled down, Trump's foreign policy is international white nationalism plus corruption. Plus usual Trump theatrics of boasting of meagre or non-existent "deals." It's hard to see how this isn't de-destabilizing and ultimately will lead to wars.

Yeah but "dangerous" is a word inherently about hypotheticals.

I doubt that. I keep thinking about how media was fawning all over him after airstrikes against Syria. Any neocon or even neoliberal president would have definitely been tempted to put his problems away (and Trump has many) by making the conflict larger

I am not sure Trump would attack a country for no apparent reason. From what we have seen so far he would much rather get money from foreign leaders than attack them.

That’s an understatement... given his current behaviour...
