Disney has been on this kick for awhile. Maleficent, the whole tween Descendants, even the TV show Once Upon a Time all featured villains being portrayed as shades of gray and turned into protagonists, while traditional virtuous characters are shaded as corrupt, hypocritical.

I am not sure what in particular is driving the trend but as we examine our upside down global political situation, where autocrats high five about murdering their enemies, we might want to rethink this a minute.
