      1. Let's talk about what a cesspool of corruption the New York Times op-ed page has become under James Bennet.

...it's corrupt to run an op-ed? Okay, the content may be offensive, and it's 'legitimacy' may be questionable... and transparency preferable... but 'cesspool of corruption'?

Read the thread! It's about more than being offensive -- it's about passing off dictator sponsored propaganda as expert opinion.

I disagree. As is well put on the #Guardian op-ed page : 'comment is free'. I get the #noplatforming sentiment, and hate autocracy, but an op-ed page is exactly where these comments belong if/when they are thought provoking.

What is thought provoking about propaganda masquerading as an expert analysis where they make no mention of their possible ethical conflicts?

Transparency is not "preferable," it is necessary! Otherwise, you have intentions to persuade that are invisible to the reader -- this is why it is corruption.

I've seen this pro-Saudi propaganda spewed from a variety of supposedly objective sources. Astute readers realized that most Think Tanks are shills for those who fund them, regardless of how independent they may seem.

I'm merely reacting to what I think is your over-reaction. I'm guessing that @JBennet knew what he was doing. I'm guessing that there'll be plenty of opposing opinion. Including that which calls him out on his decision.

Great thread Jeet. I don't believe you can throw op-eds like this in your paper and implicitly claim "well, we provided context with articles we did last month, so keep up".

While much of what you say is true, this was my opinion long before they uttered it and I don't deal out propaganda from dictators. If I did I'd have a lot more money
