Bailing out Canada's newspapers at this specific moment is hitting "pause" on Canadian journalism at the worst possible scene. The papers have never been worse. They won't improve on gov't life support. We'll just preserve a shitty status quo & lock out new players indefinitely

I would not characterize the editorial decisions I am describing as an effort to be independent. I am talking about chronic bothsidesism and timidity about pursuing certain topics or politicians too doggedly. A direct impact on the rigour and independence of the journalism.

Dude, what. You think the CBC's chronic bothsidesism comes from wanting to avoid been seen as an arm for any political party? And not just the same chronic bothsidesism that is pervasive in, oh, I don't know, literally any legacy org?
