Well, eventually it might penetrate the public consciousness that an unelected, unpaid, highly partisan outfit is having an outsized influence on federal judicial policy, and then there might be hell to pay. (There might not be, but why risk it?)

Not really. Conservative "thinking" nowadays centers on the "we're being oppressed" narrative. Bragging about the power you wield kinda defeats that purpose.

They’re accurately describing the functioning of the organization. Some of its members have tremendous influence, but not because of any formal organizational role.

The principal difference is right in the name. It’s not a think tank or policy shop. It doesn’t take or have positions. It has members.
