There used to be a taboo against obvious, checkable lies. Even 'wingers would phrase things carefully to mislead rather than lie. Trump has demolished that taboo.

This kind of easily checkable lie is Tucker's way of taking sides between the media and Trump. He deliberately burned what little credibility he had left in the MSM in order to prove what a good Trumpster he is.

Right. He can rant about gypsy hordes or Hollywood making you gay or whatever on the show and back off, as they often do, to a stance of "well, I'm just passing along other people's assertions." This lie is his own. And it's going to burn him pretty bad, I think.
