The important thing to keep in mind is that the data and analysis should never be interrogated skeptically.https://twitter.com/EricLevitz/status/1059888867803910146 …

Survey data suggests that white Obama voters who defected to Trump in 2016 were motivated largely by racial resentment. But to conclude, from that, that Dems can't win them back (without being racist) is to ignore how incomprehensibly odd many voters are https://twitter.com/AdamSerwer/status/1059886122405371909 …

I've interrogated it skeptically many times, as the data is not convenient to my ideological purposes!

I understand. It's just funny how the data tells us to ignore the bleeding obvious: The more personally dynamic candidate, the one who seems less beholden to some normal corporate board, seems to win a certain type of swing voter.

My dumb intuition has always been that a certain type of swing voter just looks at candidates and thinks, "Which one of these assholes is more like those fuckers from the corporate office?" Then votes the other way. Obama-Trump-Gillum makes perfect sense by this heuristic.

I think that's plausible. Another possibility is that Obama-Obama-Trump-Gillum voters are people who really hate Hillary Clinton (for whatever reason good or bad) and/or are sexists.
