How the Trump-clickbait complex works: a reporter asked him if he thought Soros was funding it, though he hadn’t mentioned Soros; he said “I don’t know who, but I wouldn’t be surprised”; The Hill got its #content, truncated the quote, got its clicks.https://twitter.com/thehill/status/1057757368111509512 …

I mostly agree with Dara - I usually think it’s wrong to criticize reporters for asking questions Trump might answer in an inflammatory way; that’s on him, not them. Just saying this quote was vague and reactive and in response to a fishing expedition.https://twitter.com/dlind/status/1057798581455863808?s=21 …

Usually I hate this genre as you know but it really should not be too much to ask Trump to refrain from expressing any openness whatsoever to THE LITERAL CONSPIRACY THEORY ESPOUSED BY THE DUDE WHO SHOT UP A SYNAGOGUE

I agree with all this I just feel like for once it is fair to insist that Trump not be vague.

As I read the exchange, it really seems like reporters introduced idea of both caravan being paid for & Soros. That seems irresponsible.https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1057742231937912833 …

Yeah I agree with this but I think that while most such irresponsible q's let the answerer off the hook, like a journalistic exclusionary rule, this one does not.

... this is pretty much the exchange I was hoping for. Totally agree. He's the President... the fact that he gets graded on such a low curve (i.e. "it's ok to swing at a conspiracy theory that just resulted in a mass murder, because it was prompted by a reporter") bothers me.
