I'm referring specifically to Jeet and Will. Neither of them were bothered in the least by violence last year. They both wrote essentially the same piece, saying that America has always had political violence, it had moderated, and there was no cause for alarm.

Did I miss his call for a change in the political rhetoric from Democrats? Did I miss his description of the event as an attempted political assassination?

Well the guy was a Bernie supporter and Bernie repudiated him in the strongest terms as I quoted above. If Bernie had blamed the media or his advocates suggested it was a false-flag operation, you'd have a fair comparison. What am I missing?

I don't see how a repudiation of the attempted assassinations is really relevant. It certainly doesn't distinguish the cases. Neither Bernie nor anyone else on the left repudiated their own rhetoric. They didn't care and didn't really think it was a big deal.

What rhetoric are you talking about? Maybe we just don't agree on where to draw the line. Here's a fun montage for anyone on the fence, reading this: https://boingboing.net/2018/10/25/this-montage-of-trump-calling.html …

Accusing the GOP leadership of favoring legislation that would kill people seemed to do the trick. I mean, if you think rhetoric is relevant, we have an actual instance of rhetoric motivating someone to attempt assassination.

So if the rhetoric of killing people is bad, I assume you're a critic of pro-life talk about infanticide, baby-killing, etc.

I think we're trying to understand your hypocrisy today. We can consider my view on the substance later. As far as I can tell, you're OK with rhetoric that inspires people to shoot Republicans, not with rhetoric that inspires people to send fake bombs to Dems. Do I have it right?

I abhor political violence, violent rhetoric from politicians, and people who think the hypocrisy of their political opposition is more worthy of focus than the ongoing campaigns of dehumanization led by one-party rulers in Russia, Hungary and Poland, mimicked by Trump's GOP.
