Perhaps Toronto is not as progressive as Twitter would have us believe.

I think it's about 30% inclined to vote for a progressive candidate, if that candidate provides any compelling reason to vote for her.

They haven't come anywhere near that in three elections. The "baked in" progressive vote is the 15pct that Pantaleone got in 2010.

Perhaps because by current voter standards John Tory looks like a pinko, not a conservative ?

I don't know about that, but I think progressives in TO make a mistake when they think that they have a winning coalition, minus a few circumstantial issues, they should be thinking of what kind of potentially winning coalition they should participate in.

I agree. Less flippantly, I believe a moderate conservative is such a rarity that this seems more acceptable to progressives and hence renders this a questionable proxy for estimating the true size of the progressive voter market in Toronto.

I like these progressives who vote for moderate conservatives rather than actual progressives.pic.twitter.com/jcuUluieco

Agree with Andray here: to win in politics you need to have a political base and some political profile. Wonkery only turns on the cognoscenti

Is anyone disagreeing with Andray on this point?

Didn't mean that in a polemical way -- just that I think this particular point gets at something crucial in this election.

Her crucial error was to remove provincial secession from the platform.
