Here's the thing: being "independent [and] impartial" is a baseline minimum for a judge. If you have to argue that you have these qualities, you shouldn't be on the Supreme Court.

The problem with this analogy: The only reason republicans want this guy on the court is because of his blatant partisan nature. And they are in power, so there’s no reason to pretend any differently. Their maga voters WANT a ruthless partisan who will make abortion illegal.

The masks are off. The goals are clear. The notion that the Supreme Court is not split along partisan lines is quaint at best. We nominate Sotomayor and Ginsburg. They nominate Thomas and Kavanaugh. Who even pretends any different now?
