      1. There's some forgotten social history here. Kids drank a lot in the 1970s and 1980s but then there was a push back. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) created in 1980, Drug Abuse & Resistance Education (DARE) in 1983. https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1047569138472968192 …

      2. People tend to dismiss or ignore groups like MADD because, let's face it, moms telling kids to behave is seen as uncool. But in fact MADD really changed stuff, not just laws (drinking age up) but also social norms around drinking.

      3. There was also a pushback against the pushback. P.J. O'Rourke (who can be described as the writer Mark Judge aspired to be) joked about creating group called Drunks Against Mad Mothers (DAMM) -- which some of his fans did.

      4. The O'Roarke stuff should remind us that 1980s were key point where a certain type of Frat Boy achieved (in the Marxist sense) a class consciousness. The Frat Boy stood for white male liberty against prissy moms as well as feminists & POC.

This is the basic worldview of the "slobs vs. snobs" comedies that were hugely successful in the late 70's and early 80's.

And this comes out of National Lampoon, and specifically Animal House, which had a huge cultural effect on young men. with ties to SNL and Belushi etc. These are Kavanaughs cultural touchstones

In fact the through line (in the article you are going to write about this Jeet) for masculine reaction against feminisn in the 60s then goes into buddy movies (48 hours) and macho fests like Rambo that are all misogynistic and then into Wall Street’s anti hero money maker badass

They all wanted to be Eric Stratton while deep down they knew they were Greg Marmalard. That continues to be their problem and no amount of beer is going to fix it.

Oddly, the movie PCU kinda gets that take. But the members of The Pit are more like the frat boys I went to college with as opposed to the David Spade frat boy character.
