1. This is something that's been gnawing at me. Leaving aside the sexual assault allegations against him, Kavanaugh is just a massive, shameless liar, as seen by his Fox interview.https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1044795924998967296 …

9. As I've suggested before, the smart play for Kavanaugh would be to not pretend to be Teen Squeaky Clean but to be forthright about his past. The GOP is inclined to take "boys will be boys" attitude anyways. So the lies seem weirdly unnecessary.

10. This makes sense. We know Kavanaugh's friend (and drinking partner) Mark Judge got black out drunk. The unwillingness of the GOP to subpoena Judge speaks for itself.https://twitter.com/Beyerstein/status/1044816403453415424 …

It is odd how he is taking the politician route - the interview with his wife, the outright denials, - when he just doesn't have the chops for it.

>Look at George W. Bush. Yeah, he just lied us into the Iraq War, and yellowcake, and Valerie Plame, and the US Attorney scandal ... heartwarming

I think he's the kind of guy who does what men who he sees as powerful tell him to do.

I call it the “fuck you lie”, where you know it’s a lie and they know it’s a lie and they know you know, but think of it as a baller move to just blatantly, shamelessly lie, when everyone knows it and everyone knows nothing will be done about it. Republicans are masters of it

I read it that way as well. It may also speak to the continuing degradation of the Republican Party. "Truthiness" sounds almost quaint today -- making things sound superficially plausible? Why put in all that work? Who knows, if W were running today he might deny *his* history.
