1. This is something that's been gnawing at me. Leaving aside the sexual assault allegations against him, Kavanaugh is just a massive, shameless liar, as seen by his Fox interview.https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1044795924998967296 …

8. What's weird to me is that the lying seems so unnecessary. I mean, there's no need to pretend to be Andy Hardy or Archie Andrews. Americans, especially evangelicals, love a good redemption story. Look at George W. Bush.

9. As I've suggested before, the smart play for Kavanaugh would be to not pretend to be Teen Squeaky Clean but to be forthright about his past. The GOP is inclined to take "boys will be boys" attitude anyways. So the lies seem weirdly unnecessary.

10. This makes sense. We know Kavanaugh's friend (and drinking partner) Mark Judge got black out drunk. The unwillingness of the GOP to subpoena Judge speaks for itself.https://twitter.com/Beyerstein/status/1044816403453415424 …

Let's not exaggerate. It's almost impossible to be a heavy drinker without collateral damage.

The willingness to lie here, when the cost of telling the truth is tiny, and the price for lying so heavy.... It just baffles. There must be something deeper.

He appears to have an addictive personality, since there are signs of a gambling problem too. Paired with not being able to admit to drinking heavily in the past makes me suspect he still has an unhealthy relationship with booze.

YES. It's the fact that he's lying to the public for his own self-interest/personal gain, and we're expected to trust him on the SCOTUS.

I was riding shotgun with you until point '7', Jeet. There's tons of evidence heavy drinking at a young age is deleterious to physical and mental health, and could be indicative of addiction issues later in life.

I think you mean "being a big drinker isn't the main problem here per se"; being a big drinker damages your health
