2. The fact that Kavanaugh was a heavy drinker as a teen & college student is supported by tons of evidence: yearbook, the memoirs & roman a clefs of Mark Judge, & testimony from many who knew him including Yale roommate. It's as certain as anything of this sort can be

3. Also the persona in the yearbook & based on the testimony of friends is a frat boy, hard-drinker, out to impress the guys, sometimes disrespectful of women. Yet in Fox interview he presented himself as really a choir boy.

4. Kavanaugh's self-portrait:“I was focused on academics and athletics, going to church every Sunday at Little Flower, working on my service projects, & friendship, friendship with my fellow classmates and friendship with girls from the local all girls Catholic schools.” Really?

5. Kavanaugh talks about his drinking as if it were just something occasional. Also in the passive voice: "there were parties...people might have had too many beers on occasion." This is a total whitewash of the reality that he was a very hard drinker.

6. The Washington Post article I linked to is worth reading for getting a sense of just how heavy a drinker he was, which makes the Fox whitewash (which angered those who knew him in college) all the more appalling.pic.twitter.com/37EisY67HB

7. Here's the thing: there's nothing wrong with being a big drinker (as long as you don't damage your health). It's one way to have fun as a teen and in college. What's wrong here is that at age 53 Kavanaugh can't admit truth & intent on whitewashing his past.

8. What's weird to me is that the lying seems so unnecessary. I mean, there's no need to pretend to be Andy Hardy or Archie Andrews. Americans, especially evangelicals, love a good redemption story. Look at George W. Bush.

9. As I've suggested before, the smart play for Kavanaugh would be to not pretend to be Teen Squeaky Clean but to be forthright about his past. The GOP is inclined to take "boys will be boys" attitude anyways. So the lies seem weirdly unnecessary.

10. This makes sense. We know Kavanaugh's friend (and drinking partner) Mark Judge got black out drunk. The unwillingness of the GOP to subpoena Judge speaks for itself.https://twitter.com/Beyerstein/status/1044816403453415424 …

Yeah it’s not like anything involving THE ACTUAL ASSAULT is relevant here. I assume you also think if she was really assaulted she would be able to tell us what she had for lunch that day, too.
