3. In 1945 an avowedly socialist party won power not in some alien country (like Russia) or small Western European country (like Sweden) or a rural hinterland (Saskatchewan) but in England, America's ally in 2 wars and seat of a global Empire.

The irony here is that, arguably, the 1945 election was the highwater mark of the Fabian Society's influence on the Labour Party. And it was a rather diffuse one at that.

Given the fact that in 1945 a victorious Stalin was *also* self-identifying himself as a Socialist, and in 1949 another self-identified Socialist named Mao Zedong took control of China, the right-wing attack on “Socialism” resonated quite well with most Americans.

Thanks. I studied the French Revolution quite a lot, once upon a time, but never fully grasped what the whole Freemason business was about (it had such little basis in fact).

Can’t there be a conservativism that acknowledges the need for a cautious, go slow, version of change? They could agree the house needs to be remodeled, but insist on caution and methodical inspections because we might not know which walls are load bearing, society wise.
-
Apparently not. Because this is not Conservatism, it's some kind of cult for wealthy people & their donors. Somebody up there
said, "Bircherism" & that's close to the truth. A mixture of extreme ideology & invented scare tactics. - Show replies

You can also view this through the lens of projection. The right by necessity has to invent made-up issues to mobilize the masses on behalf of a wealthy elite (abortion and guns being prime examples), so that’s what they accuse the left of doing.
-
All right wing insults (like snowflake or virtue signaling) are a form of projection.
