Context is important. In first piece, I was intervening in already lively debate about TNR racism. In second piece I was offering explanation of why it's useful to have liberal historians of conservatism (because conservative historians, as I show, whitewash their past).

I think you're prematurely presupposing that I'm someone who doesn't know conservatism when in fact I'm long time reader of all the main journals. I know of few conservatives who have wrestled with this stuff (Patrick Allitt comes to mind) but it's not exactly a floodtide.
