@RuleandRuin is of course the world's authority on moderate Republicans (his book is very good! Should be widely read!). But I wonder if he doesn't understate how powerful Trumpian currents were in GOP since at least the 1930s.Show this thread

I grew up in Maryland when it had a tradition of liberal Republicanism. That started dying in the 1960s and was pretty much killed off in the 1980s, although a few individuals survived in office until 2000.
