No reputable historian of McCarthyism would agree with this tweet.https://twitter.com/Gladwell/status/1036951312204746752 …

Okay....I was sorta making the leap to that and seeing it all as a package. Are you suggesting the Welch moment was meaningless? But, thanks for the clarification.

In part, Welch on television WAS the Army fighting back against McCarthy.

its arguable. but exchange in the context of televised hearings stands out as swaying us public opinion about McCarthy. look it up, its consistently noted that way. I dont know what your point is, but its notable you have 60 people pretending they know what you are talking about

and you havce it exactly backwards. what gave senate power to stand up to mccarthy was his drop in popularity in us public BECAUSE of hearings and especially the exchange with Welch. any serious scholar of mccarthy would be up for a debate about it.

what bothers me about your ignorant swipe is you decontextualize the novel impact of tv, McCarthy had adeptly manipulated print reporters into building his brand w/ paranoid AMericans. HIs embarrasing performance in televised hearings is what robbed him of crucial public support
