I share @JessicaValenti intense opposition to Bannon’s odious world view, but he is not “getting” an *uncontested* platform, but one in which David Remnick will *arguing* with him. I’d rather ethno-racial nationalism—a powerful strain in US politics— be exposed in plain sight. https://twitter.com/JessicaValenti/status/1036680203630772225 …

If Milo Yiannopoulos hadn't become a national story after Berkeley and invited to Bill Maher & CPAC as a result, no one would have bothered digging up things on him in the first place. A world where Milo did that talk without incident is a world where he's still doing them today.

The effect of deplatforming Milo is entirely different pre- vs. post-pedophilia exposure. The Berkeley experience was a jolt of energy for him. More recent experiences (eg Politicon) have had the opposite impact.

Anyway, the better comparison is Richard Spencer. Everyone knows his views and he himself has admitted that the constant deplatforming/counterprotests have ground him down.

A mass social justice movement defeated Southern apartheid, not stopping racists from speaking. That’s when people no longer ask extremists to speak. That’s how odious world view are crushed. When they talk, you argue. When they don’t talk, you agitate and organize.

You know what’s also a good thing: punching Nazis. No platforming Milo. Countering, see Antifa, the far right authoritarians.

but the fascism hasn't diminished in Milo's absence. It's gaining momentum.
