It's not even the issue of nuance, exactly, that has me upset—Stan Lee's political messages were subtle as a brick. But, they were parables, stories, using characters of diverse and conflicting motivations, not cardboard cutouts dictating approved political beliefs to the reader.

I'm sorry but you guys are historically ignorant to a scary degree. Superhero comics have always been very political and not in any subtle way either. Read any biography of Kirby, Marston, Ditko, Eisner or Feiffer.pic.twitter.com/Ti003RbZjj

Yes, and I think you are wrong on a number of grounds (Lee didn't really plot those stories, just added dialogue, which was far cruder & more card-board cut out than the norm in modern comics). It helps to know some history.

Oh my Goddess you are pretentious. Yes, I know how the Marvel Method works (and Lee did co-plot the stories, FWIW). I only had so many characters. And my EXACT POINT was about how classic comics were full of unsubtle political messages. I'm saying they were done BETTER back then.

Me: "Classic comics are full of political messages." You: "Actually, classic comics are full of political messages." Me: "Lee was a co-plotter w/Kirby et al." You: "Actually, in this interview Lee talks about co-plotting w/Kirby." Wow, you're making me a believer in mansplaining.

1. You are misreading that interview. 2. "You prevented me from claiming the moon for my communist masters." -- Fantastic Four #29 (1964). Your core argument is that this is a better use of politics in comics than contemporary work. I disagree.pic.twitter.com/tha8J6i6h6
