Just because you say it doesn’t make it so. These people have a legal right to apply for asylum. Refugees have done nothing wrong by how they came into Canada. The less than 0.2% of our population that come as inland refugees is hardly an unsustainable amount.

Even if your .2% statistic is correct, which I doubt. 70,000 illegals per year being funnelled into 3 or 4 municipalities is the definition of unsustainable.

Yes, I was wrong. It is actually less than 0.1% (a little over 20,000 in 2017). If they all ended up in the GTA, they would be less than 1% of the population there. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/refugees/asylum-claims-2017.html …

Meanwhile, inflation, interest rates, property taxes, hospital wait times & overall cost of living rises.

Honestly, if you think these social problems are all the fault of refugee claimants, there's something more going on than rational policy.

They're a burden financially, on infrastructure, social service border services plain & simple. Majority of Canadians & legal immigrants agree & adds to the growing resentment, rightfully so.

      1. Compassion should be extended even when there is a cost. 2. You assert burden, but the actual costs incurred are a tiny percentage of the budget. Moreover, many refugees become net contributors within a reasonable time. 3. Right to due process not a matter of public opinion.

      Budget? You mean deficit.

Yes, you can substitute deficit for budget if you wish. The small percentage part would be unchanged.

100's of millions annually + interest, again unsustainable.

In a period of low interest rates and low growth, deficit spending and immigration are good policies, to be honest.

Even accepting the figures that were just pulled out of thin air, I would note that $300 million is 0.1% of the federal budget. This assumes none of the cost is borne out of provincial and municipal budgets (which would lower this percentage even more).

Do you load up on debt when interest is low and not prepare for when rates go up? Borrowing money because interest is currently low is not smart borrowing. You still haven't answered my initial question.

The debt-to-GDP ratio, which is the datum that really matters, is declining. Canada’s fiscal position *is* improving.
