The conundrum for me on the sports front: I still have a “pay as you go” subscription to the local paper but the Athletic has the best coverage of the Winnipeg Jets and it isn’t close. I never read the local paper for hockey coverage.

Agreed, tho sports coverage (high school football!) tends to be better - or at least suffer less - at smaller papers than news coverage. How to build that into a model for beefing up news, I don't know. Maybe appoint a bunch of kids to local govt committees?
