It's no more hypocritical of the descendant of immigrants to oppose immigration than it is for the descendants of anyone to not have children. Stephen Miller's problem is that he's perpetrating evil, and it wouldn't be in the least exculpatory if this were a family tradition.

There's nothing libertarian about opposing immigration though! (Also, Miller's stance is not equivalent to not having children, but to advocating widespread mandatory sterilization.)

The point is that hypocrisy has nothing to do with inconsistency with what other people did. And even if you're personally inconsistent on a matter or principle, what matters is whether the principle is good or bad. If it's bad, hypocrisy is better than consistency.

I agree that hypocrisy is a lesser sin and it's better to focus on what is in fact the problem (Miller's nativism), which would be a problem even if he were, say, the descendant of pilgrims.
