Jeet Heer added,
What do you see in this thread that's in "bad faith," exactly? Is everyone who criticizes Jeong and finds her tweets vile responsible for someone's racist garbage directed at her?
The idea that she can't be a victim because she's Ivy League seems bad faith since anti-Asian racism (as illustrated by the Garrison cartoon) is a very real thing.
Many people are arguing that Jeong isn't meaningfully oppressed or doesn't face racism in the US. This cartoon is very racist. it's a good example that anti Asian racism exists. Claiming it doesn't exist is therefore untenable.
Jeet isn't saying you can't discuss anything this guy has done a cartoon about. He's saying that you should acknowledge that anti-Asian racism exists, and that that needs to be taken into account when discussing this issue.
It's not that complicated a point really...though obviously you may have your own reasons for not wanting to understand it.
It's funny though that the "endgame boss of left-wing trolling" was able to understand the point of my tweet and you weren't.
So, because they don't like "punch up concepts" do they 1) criticize punch up concepts or 2) demonize a young Asian American as a "racist" thus giving rhetorical ammunition to the likes of Ben Garrison to draw a racist cartoon? If they do 2) what does that say?
If the only time, we talk about NYT columnists is when new ones are appointed, maybe they do not matter at all.
