It was pretty warmly received when it came out in the 1970s—even some Jewish reviewers thought it was smart. Almost no one called Cuddihy an antisemite so far as I can tell, although his theories are a more sophisticated and humanistic version of MacDonald's ideas.

Cuddihy was very friendly with the National Review's Joe Sobran and James Burnham; Burnham wrote an extremely laudatory review of Cuddihy's book and Buckley put Cuddihy on Firing Line, with Jewish author Stephen Isaacs, who let's say did not have the chips to confront Cuddihy.

Sobran later became a full-blown holocaust denier and part of his inspiration, he recounted, was Burnham's dark theories of political manipulation. I wonder what Cuddihy and Burnham talked about at the dinner table?

Someone asked about Sam Francis, —here he is in a review of a book about Burnham, it's interesting how he phrases this passage: what does Cuddihy's work have to do with neoconservatism? Well...pic.twitter.com/yJJk2hPG0n

Just to give a sense of Cuddihy's respectability he did a forum in 1983 at the 92nd St Y where he just sort of repeated antisemitic tropes, —this is obviously in a very Jewish environment!pic.twitter.com/2deBUauGE7

Replying to @lionel_trolling
Buckley asks some good questions at minutes 19 to 23 -- about Cuddihy's implicit belief that acculturation is superior

Replying to @HeerJeet
the entire theory is absurd on the face of it, there’s many more anomic thinkers who are not jewish

Yep. Robert Alter's review is, I think, definitive.
