Mark seems a bit soft in the head. Mushy. Had no idea who Shapiro even was or his history. A sad joke. Also not sure “reaching across the isle” in the trump era even makes sense. Most “never trump republicans” agree with 90% of his terrible policies. Screw all that.
Reproductive rights. Climate change. Campaign finance. SCOTUS. There is nothing to “reach across the isle FOR”. Outvoting the GOP is the name of game. Cuddling up to Shapiro et al: a degrading and counterproductive activity. A distraction at best.
As a Dem voter but more to center than left, there are many conservatives I enjoy reading way more than Shapiro (Douthat, Tom Nichols, George Will among them). When I think of Shapiro, I think of too many examples like Jeet shows here to recommend him.
And no one has used those writers as inspiration to muder six people in cold blood.
Douthat just spouts Religious Right talking points, and acts puzzled that Republicans are only concerned with the rich. He’s not worth reading at all.
David Brooks and Ben Shapiro are not smart, but I sometimes do read them for the laughs they provide
