Wow I didn’t know I have the same hometown as Steve Ditko! He’s completely unrecognized there. (I was a little confused because it’s misspelled in your article, but I confirmed on Wikipedia.)

*might win them a posthumous fame, of the sort enjoyed by William Blake or Henry Darger." Bad combo comparison. The fame won by Blake is glorious and deserved. The Darger stuff remains mostly icky back-room-of-the-basement stuff.

Sorry to hear about Ditko's passing. Good piece on his work. One name I was thinking you'd mention was Steranko, probably the closest to his style of visual psychedelia.

My son turned 5 today, he demanded his party theme be spider-man. It was a fitting celebration.

What's reason for calling him co-creator and not just creator?

A minor quibble. There was another artist that Stan Lee didn't push to be more like Jack Kirby: Gene Colan. Gene already had a dynamic cinematic artistic style that was well suited for Marvel. It's hard to believe his talent was wasted on romance comics at DC.
