1. We have to be as radical as reality itself and accept what is true even if it seems strange & unsettling. The President of the United States wants to destroy the Western alliance.https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/us-assessing-cost-of-keeping-troops-in-germany-as-trump-battles-with-europe/2018/06/29/94689094-ca9f-490c-b3be-b135970de3fc_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.d9398535aa32 …

3. What Trump is doing is very strange, in that he's breaking with 70 years of American foreign policy & targeting the very institutions the USA made: NATO, EU, Gatt, G-7 etc.

4. But for me the larger problem is not so much Trump's desire to draw back USA power but the way he's doing it, by fiat without buy-in from any American institutions.

5. Even as Trump is preaching America drawback, there's lots of signs that his Secretary of Defense & others aren't buying it. So USA is sending very mixed messages to world. That's dangerous.

I find it very very hard to agree with this. Does a more modest US foreign policy mean nuclear weapons for Germany, Japan, and South Korea? Does it mean more military spending (as % GDP) for these countries and in turn the world?
